Cesar Gonzalez Barron

14 Oct 2019 · Coroner ME Hassell · London Inner (North)

The coroner's concerns

  1. 1. delayed recognition of unconsciousness

“When Mr [name redacted] Barrén lost consciousness, there was a delay before it was recognised that this was not part of the performance”
  2. 2. lack of language barrier awareness

“She did not appreciate that there would be non native English (mostly Spanish) speakers working the event, which might raise language barriers in an emergency”
  3. 3. unknown ambulance protocol

“She did not know the protocol for ringing an ambulance”
  4. 4. defibrillator not retrieved promptly

“The first aider did not take the defibrillator with her when she first went to the ring”
  5. 5. lack of leadership during emergency

“When Mr [name redacted] collapsed, the scene was chaotic. No person took charge”
  6. 6. delayed CPR initiation

“Chest compressions were started two minutes after that, at 10.22pm. CPR should have been started as soon as Mr [name redacted] Barrén arrested”
